WOLFSBURG (July 15, 2026) – Volkswagen has officially unveiled the all-electric ID. Cross compact SUV, which is built on the advanced MEB+ platform and brings premium-class technologies to an affordable segment. The packaging allows for a surprisingly spacious cabin that fits five passengers alongside 16.8 cubic feet of rear trunk space, which includes a dedicated under-floor storage area large enough for two beverage crates. An additional front trunk, or frunk, under the hood offers another 0.88 cubic feet of storage specifically tailored for charging cables and small items.

The front-wheel-drive powertrain will eventually offer three electric motor outputs: a base 114-hp variant, a mid-tier 133-hp model, and a powerful 208-hp version. Buyers can pair these with either a 37 kWh or a 52 kWh usable battery pack, delivering up to 265 miles of range on the European WLTP cycle. When it comes to charging, the smaller battery can replenish from 10% to 80% in about 23 minutes at a 90 kW DC fast charger, while the larger battery achieves the same charge in 24 minutes at up to 105 kW. For added utility, the vehicle comes standard with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability to power external gear at up to 3.6 kW, and models with the larger battery can tow up to 2,645 pounds with a 165-pound tongue weight.

Inside, the cabin features a horizontal layout housing a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster—which features a retro mode that mimics the classic instruments of a Mk1 Golf—and a massive 12.9-inch center infotainment touchscreen. Advanced driver assistance comes standard, highlighted by Connected Travel Assist that can automatically brake the SUV to a complete stop at red traffic lights, alongside support for one-pedal driving, a 360-degree camera, and fully automated remote parking. Premium options elevate the experience further with adaptive suspension, a panoramic sunroof, a 425-watt Harman Kardon audio system, and 12-way power front seats featuring a pneumatic massage function.

In Germany, the lineup begins with the entry-level Trend trim at 27,995 euros (approximately $31,000 USD), which features standard DC fast charging. Upgrading to the Life trim introduces 18-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, and adaptive cruise control, while the top-tier Style trim adds premium matrix LED headlights, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and keyless entry. The highest-performing 208-horsepower Style model paired with the 52 kWh battery starts at 36,525 euros (approximately $40,500 USD).
