RESTON, Va. (August 10, 2026) – Volkswagen of America has unveiled the second-generation 2027 Atlas Cross Sport, a sporty five-seater midsize SUV built on the upgraded MQB Evo platform and assembled in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Shorter and lower than the 7-seater Atlas, the redesigned Cross Sport features a coupe-like profile with dramatic rear pillars, fresh sheet metal, active and dynamic lighting elements, standard 18-inch wheels on base models, and available 20- or 21-inch alloy wheels. Three new exterior paint options—Dark Sage Metallic, Blackberry Metallic, and Sandstone—join the color palette.

Inside, the cabin receives an architectural overhaul with soft-touch materials, stylish wood trim, standard 10-color or available 30-color ambient lighting, and refreshed color schemes with available Varenna or Nappa leather. Front passengers benefit from 12-way ergonomic seats with available thigh support and massage functions, while standard technical upgrades include a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, a 12.9-inch or 15-inch infotainment screen, a center console Driver Experience Dial, dual wireless Qi2 charging, and up to five USB-C ports. Volkswagen is also introducing its new myVW+ in-vehicle subscription package, adding features like AI-powered voice commands, streaming media, native navigation, and park-gaming via AirConsole.

Performance comes from an upgraded EA888 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine featuring a variable geometry turbocharger, producing 282 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque—a 13-hp increase over its predecessor while aiming for better fuel economy. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the SUV offers standard front-wheel drive or available 4Motion all-wheel drive, retains a 5,000-pound towing capacity, and will introduce a hybrid option with its midcycle refresh. Safety enhancements feature a new front-center airbag and refined IQ.DRIVE capabilities, including lane-change assist, Emergency Assist Plus, and available Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control.
