HAWTHORNE, Calif. (August 19, 2026) – Unplugged Performance completed a comprehensive preservation program for Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen’s personal Model S Plaid Signature Edition #001, which is the first of just 250 units produced in the model’s final production run.
Unlike a previous project where Unplugged Performance added handling and brake upgrades to von Holzhausen’s personal Model 3, this Model S project focused entirely on preserving a historic collector’s car. Before applying any protective materials, the Auto Spa team performed extensive cleaning and chemical decontamination across all panels to ensure a pristine surface free of bonded contaminants and iron particles.
The protection plan incorporated three complementary treatments. First, XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS Paint Protection Film was installed to create a physical barrier against minor impacts, road debris, and scratches while preserving the original factory finish beneath. Next, a full ceramic coating was applied across the bodywork, painted exterior trim, and wheel faces to deliver a hydrophobic finish that increases surface gloss and simplifies routine cleaning. Finally, XPEL PRIME XR PLUS window film was applied to all glass panels to block ultraviolet rays and infrared heat, helping preserve the cabin interior without altering the vehicle’s factory aesthetic.
