TORRANCE, Calif. (October 1, 2026) — Honda has refreshed the Civic Type R for 2027, giving America’s best-selling hot hatch bolder front styling, better engine cooling, sharper driving dynamics, and a more refined cabin with heated front seats and expanded standard technology. The update arrives as the Type R celebrates its 30th anniversary globally, six generations after its debut in Japan as a 1997 model, and its 10th anniversary in North America. It remains the only car in its class offered exclusively with a manual transmission, and it reaches Honda dealers this month with an MSRP of $48,695.

“The legendary Civic Type R has embodied the Honda challenging spirit for three decades, leveraging our deep roots in motorsports with racetrack-proven engineering that maximizes performance without sacrificing Type R’s civilized road manners. The refreshed 2027 Civic Type R honors that legacy by enhancing comfort, technology and style without compromising the exhilarating driving experience that has defined the Civic Type R for six generations.”

Sharper Styling and Driving Dynamics
The 2027 Type R gets a more aggressive front fascia with a larger grille opening and a deeper front splitter for more downforce. Reduced turbulence improves airflow, increasing engine cooling and helping the car sustain performance on track. Revised suspension damping in +R mode improves road-following, reducing bouncing and impact harshness for better stability and handling. The Rev Match system now responds faster for smoother downshifts. A new yoke spring in the brake pedal linkage removes play for a more direct pedal feel.

Power still comes from the turbocharged K20C engine, built at Honda’s Anna Engine Plant in Ohio. With 315 hp, the Type R is the most powerful Honda production vehicle ever sold in the U.S. A redesigned engine cover recalls early Japanese-market Type R models. A new Meteorite Gray Metallic paint joins Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl, and Championship White.

A More Refined Cabin
For the first time, the Type R’s front sport seats are heated, with three-level controls. Their red, high-friction suede-like upholstery gets a new perforation pattern with black striping. Ultrasuede now covers the upper instrument panel and front door panels, adding a premium feel and reducing windshield glare. Other new details include a diamond-pattern dash trim panel, black climate and vent knobs, silver door panel trim, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a darker gray finish for the aluminum shift knob, door handles, and console trim.

More Standard Technology and Safety
The Type R gains Google built-in for the first time, including Google Gemini, Google Maps, and Google Play, alongside Alexa built-in. Two USB-C ports join the standard wireless phone charger. The standard Honda Sensing suite has been enhanced. Collision Mitigation Braking now detects motorcycles and bicycles better, Adaptive Cruise Control responds more quickly when braking and accelerating, and Lane Keeping Assist handles road camber more smoothly. Post-Collision Braking, which helps mitigate damage in multi-impact crashes, is now standard, and the car gets a new dual-tone horn.
