GAYDON, U.K. (September 22, 2026) — Land Rover last week revealed the Defender Wolf Series II, its next-generation military vehicle, in four configurations: a tactical mobility vehicle, a general mobility vehicle, an ambulance, and a utility vehicle (UV) — a single-cab pickup built to carry soldiers and equipment.
The UV’s reveal has renewed attention on reports that Land Rover and Stellantis are exploring a civilian Defender pickup for the North American market. That reporting traces back to a non-binding memorandum of understanding the two companies signed in May 2026, and JLR has confirmed only that the collaboration is focused on the Defender brand and “opportunities specifically targeted at North American customers.” Jaguar Land Rover’s executive director of vehicle programs, Nick Collins, told Autocar that “there were no structural limitations” to the Defender’s monocoque design.
Reports have floated Stellantis’s Belvidere, Illinois, plant as a possible production site and suggested a civilian truck would likely ride on a ladder-frame platform closer to a Jeep Gladiator than the monocoque Wolf Series II revealed this week, but neither company has confirmed a manufacturing site, a platform, a powertrain, or a launch timeline. No civilian pickup has been officially announced by Land Rover, JLR, or Stellantis.
