MUNICH (September 10, 2026) – The Nürburgring officially opened on June 18, 1927. To mark the 100th anniversary of the Nürburgring in 2027, BMW M and BMW Motorrad are introducing the joint anniversary edition: “100 Years Nürburgring.” The lineup includes six BMW M automobiles and three BMW Motorrad M motorcycles, paying tribute to a venue that represents driving dynamics, precision, and performance like no other.

These edition models combine cutting-edge, high-performance technology with an exclusive design and equipment package. The BMW M cars are built on the latest technical advancements from BMW M GmbH, with the inline six-cylinder models featuring BMW M Ignite. The automotive lineup includes the BMW M2, BMW M3 Sedan, BMW M3 Wagon (Touring), BMW M4 Coupe, BMW M5 Sedan, and BMW M5 Wagon (Touring). On the motorcycle side, the BMW M 1000 RR, BMW M 1000 R, and BMW M 1000 XR complete the special release.

A signature feature across all nine anniversary models is the historic Nürburgring Green paint developed exclusively for this edition, highlighted by model-specific accents. The official tagline, “Born on the Racetrack. Built for the Street,” sums up the goal: bringing motorsport technology directly to street-legal, high-performance vehicles.

“The Nürburgring is far more than just a racetrack to us—it’s a second home for BMW M. Every single one of our production vehicles is pushed to its limits on the Nordschleife. With the 100 Years Nürburgring Edition, we’re celebrating our long and successful history with the Ring,” said Frank van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH.

“The Nordschleife has been baked into the DNA of our M models for decades. With these special models honoring the 100th anniversary of the Nürburgring, we’re paying tribute to a track that made motorsport history and continues to bridge the gap between track and road like nothing else,” added Markus Flasch, CEO of BMW Motorrad.

A Unified Design Concept Across Nine Models
The styling package features a “100 Years” badge, “Nürburgring since 1927” lettering, and the track outline of the Nürburgring. Historic Nürburgring Green ties the collection together visually, complemented by model-specific graphics, premium materials, and custom accent colors.

On the BMW M cars, edition graphics are placed on the front doors, C-pillars, or rear quarter panels depending on the vehicle. Custom roof stripes are another standout feature: running across the carbon fiber roof on the BMW M2, BMW M3 Sedan, BMW M4 Coupe, and BMW M5 Sedan, and across the steel roof on the BMW M3 and M5 Wagons. Light gray, Nürburgring Green, and black form the core color scheme, accented by green highlights on the wheels and kidney grille frames. Buyers can also opt for Black Sapphire Metallic.

The BMW Motorrad models sport a custom-painted fuel tank featuring the Nürburgring track map, an anniversary airbox cover stamped with a “1 of 100” badge, carbon fiber wheels with Nürburgring Green pin-striping, and an Alcantara-style seat with embroidered “100” badging. Blacked-out chassis components, including the rear swingarm and subframe, complete the aggressive look.

Interior and Motorcycle Details
Inside the BMW M cars, black leather is offset by contrast green and white stitching. Inline six-cylinder models get an M Alcantara steering wheel with matching stitching and a 12 o’clock center marker, while BMW M5 models feature a leather M steering wheel with the same custom stitching.

The motorcycles feature exposed carbon fiber, Alcantara-look materials, blacked-out hardware, and numbered anniversary badges—delivering a cohesive look across both four-wheel and two-wheel lineups.

BMW M Ignite: Track-Tested Efficiency for Inline-6 Engines
A major technical highlight for the inline six-cylinder models is BMW M Ignite. This BMW-patented pre-chamber ignition system has been equipped on the BMW M2, BMW M3, and BMW M4 since summer 2026. It maximizes combustion efficiency under heavy loads, improves fuel economy during track use, and complies with Euro 7 emissions standards—all without sacrificing horsepower.

The “Green Hell” as the Ultimate Proving Ground
Stretching 12.9 miles (20.8 km) with 73 turns and dramatic elevation changes, the Nürburgring Nordschleife is widely regarded as the toughest track on earth. BMW Motorrad’s history with the circuit dates back to 1927, when the brand took its very first victory there.

To this day, BMW M and BMW Motorrad treat the track as a primary test facility. Chassis tuning, powertrain cooling, aerodynamics, braking systems, and thermal management are all evaluated under extreme endurance conditions, directly shaping the engineering of BMW production vehicles.
